We've used Semaspore for several seasons, & it really does the job. It works on at least 90 species of grasshoppers & crickets and isn't harmful to humans, animals, or beneficials. A natural occurring bacteria that is only harmful to grasshoppers & crickets is pre-mixed with wheat bran which may be applied by hand. When the grasshoppers eat the bran, the spores cause them to begin to lose their appetite. Because they are cannibalistic, they pass on the bacteria to the next generation, vastly reducing the population. Apply 1 pound per acre when the young grasshoppers are about 1/2 inch and when densities are less than 20 per square yard. Apply in the morning when the temperature is above 60 F.
